SEDONA, Ariz. -- The fire that has been burning around northern Arizona's Oak Creek Canyon for more than a week is now almost fully contained.
Fire officials said Saturday morning that the Slide Fire is 90 percent contained but some interior areas in the fire may continue to smolder.
Approximately 200 firefighters and other personnel remain at the site.
Crews will spend the day patrolling the fire perimeter and clearing any debris.
The 33.1-square-mile Slide Fire began May 20 near Slide Rock State Park in the scenic canyon between Sedona and Flagstaff and has burned over 21,000 acres.
It's believed to be human caused and remains under investigation.
An evacuation order for canyon residents and business orders was lifted Thursday.
Meanwhile, Highway 89A in the fire area will remain closed.
