Construction to begin on Tempe Town Lake dam

TEMPE – Construction of the new Tempe Town Lake western dam system will begin on June 4.
The new project will consist of a steel gate system to let Town Lake to change into a river during major events.
Tempe Town Lake will be extended an additional 100 feet. The project will take 18 months to complete.
The cost of the project will be approximately $40.8 million, which will make it the largest hydraulically-operated steel gate dam system in the world.
Each of the eight steel gates will be mounted on a concrete foundation and will measure 107 feet long and 17 feet high. Each will weigh approximately 230,000 pounds.
