Service set Friday for slain tribal police officer
PEORIA, Ariz. -- A memorial service is scheduled Friday for a 37-year-old Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community police officer who was fatally shot during a traffic stop in eastern metropolitan Phoenix.
The FBI says Officer Jair Cabrera was shot early Saturday after he made contact with people in the vehicle. Three people were taken into custody.
The Police Department will hold a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chevron station at Pima and Chaparral roads on the community.
Public visitation for the officer will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at West Rest Haven Mortuary in Glendale, followed by the memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Church of the Valley in Peoria.
Burial will follow at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary in Phoenix.
