PHOENIX — A Phoenix boy was among the contestants eliminated at the National Geographic Bee in Washington.
Ari Mehta was knocked out in the preliminary round Monday. Mehta, from Desert Cove Elementary School in Phoenix, was one of 54 kids competing for scholarship money, a trip to the Galapagos and bragging rights as the nation’s top junior geographer.
Mehta, 12, exited knowing that at least he’s the best in Arizona. The sixth-grader won the state title last month.
The top 10 finalists are from all around the country, including California, Florida, Ohio and Massachusetts.
The finals will be held Wednesday.
