PHOENIX – Divers have recovered the body of a teenage male who drowned in Bartlett Lake on Saturday.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s Officer Christ Hegstrom said 17-year-old Pablo Salgado was swimming at Rattlesnake Cove with family and friends when he went under the water about 9:30 a.m.
“It’s a tragic accident,” Hegstrom said. “According to witnesses he had swam across Rattlesnake Cove a couple times.”
For a reason MCSO investigators are trying to determine, Salgado went under the water while swimming back from the other side of the cove.
“We believe he did call for help but the group he was with was unable to get to him quick enough,” Hegstrom said.
Divers located Salgado’s body around 12:30 p.m.
Hegstrom said it’s important for swimmers to know their limits and use flotation devices if necessary.
