Lot of hot: Temperatures climbing in Arizona this weekend

PHOENIX -- Much of Arizona is expected to heat up this weekend, with an expected in the Valley of 104 degrees Friday.

The National Weather Service said a warm high pressure system crossing into the state Friday is making for dryer, warmer climates.

Phoenix is also predicted to hit 103 on Saturday before dropping to 101 on Sunday.

Flagstaff is poised to reach 78 degrees, which would be the hottest day for the city this year.

The city normally is about 10 degrees cooler around this time in May.

Meanwhile, Tucson is expected to hover around 99 Friday through Sunday.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is advising residents to stay hydrated and plan outdoor activities accordingly.

The agency said nearly 140 people statewide died last year because of heat-related causes.
