PHOENIX -- Two hikers have been rescued by the Phoenix Fire Department in separate incidents on Camelback Mountain's Echo Canyon Trail.

Firefighters say they responded to Echo Canyon around 10:30 a.m. Thursday after getting a call from a man who had fallen.

They say the unidentified man in his 20s got back on the trail, but couldn't make it down on his own.

While that rescue was going on, firefighters received reports of an injured woman who was about a half mile higher on Camelback Mountain.

They say the unidentified woman in her 30s had twisted her ankle and was suffering from heat exhaustion.

She was three-fourths of the way up the trail, so fire and police technical rescue crews had to use a helicopter to hoist her off the mountain.
