PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man is accused of child abuse after a baby in his care was hospitalized with bruising and skull fractures.

Bond was set at $25,000 for Saul Garcia at his initial court appearance Thursday.

The 25-year-old Garcia was arrested in the case Tuesday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet.

The baby was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital on April 13.

His mother said Garcia accidentally dropped the boy when the family dog tripped him while he was attempting to burp the child.

Garcia told police that he was trying to hold the baby with his left hand while attempting to put food into their dog's bowl with his right hand.

But doctors say the fall didn't correlate with all the injuries the baby sustained.
