Federal jury convicts metro Phoenix woman of tax fraud
PHOENIX -- A federal jury in Phoenix convicted a former tax preparer of wire fraud, false statements and identity theft.
Internal Revenue Service officials announced Wednesday that Latoya Nivea Morehead, of Avondale, was found guilty after a three-week trial.
Jurors deliberated for about three hours before finding Morehead guilty on all 43 counts.
Sentencing was scheduled for July 30.
Morehead was indicted in the case in September 2012. She worked as a tax preparer at various companies.
Morehead was accused of failing to report income on her tax returns and using personal and financial information of former clients to prepare returns.
The former clients never received their tax refunds.
