Siblings charged in killing of Phoenix shop clerk

PHOENIX -- Authorities said two brothers have been arrested in the fatal April shooting of a clerk at a central Phoenix smoke shop.

Court records indicated that 18-year-old Alex Garcia and 21-year-old Jesse Ruben Mesa were booked on suspicion of first-degree murder, armed robbery and other crimes after being taken into custody Friday for questioning.

Police identified the victim as 47-year-old Kadhim Al-Taee. He had been shot multiple times when customers found his dead body in the shop where a small fire had been set. The businesss also had been ransacked.

Garcia and Mesa are jailed in lieu of $500,000 bond and a judge has ordered that lawyers be appointed to represent the two defendants.
