PHOENIX -- A man who fled after being shot by police outside a Phoenix hospital is in custody.
Sgt. Steve Martos said a security guard reported around 3 a.m. that a man was drinking on Phoenix Children's Hospital property and behaving strangely.
According to security guards, the suspect used profanity and held a bottle in a threatening manner.
Martos said responding officers pursued him on foot.
He said an officer shot him in the leg as he made a move toward his waistband while standing up.
The suspect allegedly threw rocks at them before running away.
Martos said officers caught up to him and he was arrested.
Police said he will face aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and trespassing.
Officers received minor injuries that did not require treatment.
