Maricopa County Sheriff's Office catches up to female escapee

PHOENIX -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said a female inmate who escaped is now back in custody.

Roberta Gavina, 32, walked out of the Lower Buckeye Jail in Phoenix on Thursday before she was to be taken to a Glendale court for an appearance on shoplifting charges.

Sheriff's officials said Gavina was taken into custody Friday morning at the west Phoenix home of her boyfriend's aunt.

She faced felony escape charges in addition to the original misdemeanor shoplifting charges.
