Busy, Smart and Strong: Savvy Valley seniors saving the planet

It was April 22, 1970 that America observed its first Earth Day.

Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson was a staunch environmentalist who pushed for it as a way to get Americans to be more conscientious about the world in which we live. It must have pushed a button because later that same year, the Environmental Protection Agency was established!

Fast forward 44 years and, for most of us, recycling is a part of our everyday lives, especially since most cities now provide a special can for them. But a group of seniors at one Valley retirement community found recycling efforts lacking and felt strongly enough to do something about it. It's a major effort, but one they believe is worth it!
