PHOENIX -- An El Mirage, Ariz. couple was killed over the weekend after their Jeep crashed in a ravine, according to preliminary information from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

John Mendoza, 44, and Lisa Gutierrez, 42, were last seen about 10 p.m. Saturday leaving the town of Crown King, Ariz. in the Jeep, which had off-road modifications.

The couple's Jeep was located by friends Sunday in a steep ravine. YCSO deputies hiked to the site and determined both were killed by the crash. Gutierrez was wearing a seat belt and was found in the vehicle. Mendoza was ejected and his body was found nearby. it is unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.

It is unknown what caused the accident.
