ORO VALLEY, Ariz. -- A high school student in southern Arizona is in custody for allegedly pointing a non-functioning rifle at a person and passing cars.

Oro Valley police say the Canyon del Oro High School student was arrested Tuesday morning.

He's been booked into Pima County Juvenile Court on suspicion of aggravated assault, endangerment, criminal nuisance, threats and intimidation and disorderly conduct.

The name of the teenage boy wasn't immediately released.

Police school resource and patrol officers responded to James D. Kriegh Park around 8 a.m. and found the teenager.

They say the rifle was later found to be a non-functioning weapon.

But witnesses say the teen pointed the rifle at an unidentified female and at some passing cars from the park.
