Brown Fire in southern Arizona grows to 366 acres

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- A top-level federal management team is taking over control of a blaze burning in the Huachuca Mountains in southeastern Arizona.

Low humidity, high winds and an ongoing drought are testing firefighters battling the Brown Fire. The 366-acre wildfire is burning timber and grass in steep, rugged terrain in the mountains overlooking Sierra Vista.

No structures are threatened by the fire but authorities are putting residents on notice that they might have to evacuate.

Fire crews were helicoptered in Tuesday to construct fire lines on a ride to keep the blaze from escaping a bowl in a canyon. They were aided by air tankers dropping fire retardant and helicopters dropping water.

Officials say the fire was human-caused but remains under investigation.

A public meeting is scheduled Tuesday evening in Hereford.
