Arizona hotel maid arrested for identity theft
PHOENIX -- A housekeeper at a Scottsdale resort was arrested for stealing the identity of a blind Mesa woman.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said 54-year-old Elva Cadenas was booked on felony charges, including five counts of aggravated identity theft and five counts of forgery. She used the ID to get a job.
Cadenas was arrested Friday and she admitted to paying $350 for a stolen Social Security card and an Arizona driver's license.
Deputies said Cadenas is a Mexican national who lives in Tempe. She has been working at the 3 Palms Hotel since July.
The victim discovered the crime when she was denied benefits by the Arizona Department of Economic Security because of wages Cadenas earned.
