PHOENIX -- Authorities have released the name of a man using a walker who was fatally struck by an SUV as he was trying to cross a Phoenix street.

Police said 58-year-old Gregory Regan was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after Wednesday afternoon's accident near 19th and Turney avenues.

Witnesses said Regan was hit after stopping in the crosswalk. He reportedly turned back in the middle of the crosswalk after dropping something.

Police said a woman driving an SUV failed to notice him or change direction. The driver remained at the scene, where she was evaluated by detectives who determined she wasn't impaired. Speed did not appear to be factor, either, but the investigation i ongoing.

The woman's name hasn't been released.
