MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa firefighters say the body of a man has been found at the bottom of an apartment complex swimming pool.

Mesa Fire Department spokesman Dean Morales said crews responded to the complex at 3 a.m. Sunday after a resident walking by noticed a person in the pool.

Morales said fire crews pulled the 24-year-old man out and attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morales said it's not yet known if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

He said a medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not released the man's identity.
