PHOENIX -- Authorities have charged a 33-year-old man who allegedly hit a good Samaritan at the scene of a deadly crash on a Phoenix interstate.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves said Alberto Lopez-Ruelas was booked on a felony hit-and-run charge Saturday.

DPS officers said a woman lost control of her Chevrolet Malibu just before 5:20 a.m. on Interstate 17 near Thunderbird Road and hit a median.

They said another car struck her vehicle, causing her female passenger to be ejected and then fatally struck by multiple cars.

Graves said a man stopped to offer assistance when he was hit by Ruelas, who left the scene but returned.

Authorities said the Malibu driver, who was impaired by alcohol, will be charged with manslaughter.

Graves said the good Samaritan suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
