Former Arizona detention officer earns 2-year prison sentence for stabbing father

PHOENIX -- A former Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officer was sentenced to two years in prison for stabbing his father.

County Superior Court officials said 28-year-old CJ Joe was sentenced Friday after entering a plea agreement.

Avondale police arrested Joe after he wounded his 55-year-old dad with a Swiss Army knife at his father's home on April 21 during an argument.

He originally was charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Joe's sister told authorities that the father and son were arguing about politics when the stabbing occurred.

Sheriff's officials said Joe worked at the Durango Jail and had been a detention officer since 2005 with no discipline history or employment issues before his arrest.
