PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Prescott is celebrating its 150th birthday by having residents gather for a community photo.
The former territorial capital of Arizona was founded in 1864.
City officials are asking residents to gather at the Yavapai County courthouse on April 19 for the photo, dressed in clothing that reflects the spirit and history of Prescott.
City spokesman Pete Wertheim said a turnout of a couple of thousand people is expected. Prescott has a population of more than 40,000.
Wertheim said the idea for the photo came from City Council member Jean Wilcox, who mentioned that hundreds of Flagstaff residents gathered in 1994 for a photo celebrating the mountain city's 100th birthday.
