Firefighters south of Phoenix put out fire on train engine

MARICOPA, Ariz. — Maricopa firefighters responding to what was reported as a vehicle fire instead had to put out a train engine fire.

Tracks of the Union Pacific's Sunset Route run parallel to the highway.

Maricopa Fire said firefighters put out the fire within minutes Tuesday evening along the highway between Maricopa and Casa Grande.

The department said the engine which had the fire was left shut down and that the multi-engine train departed a shortly later.
