PHOENIX — U.S. Rep. Ed Pastor is endorsing Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox in the race to succeed the Arizona Democrat when he retires from representing the state's 7th Congressional District.

Pastor announced in February that he'll retire at the end of his current term.

Wilcox is a Democrat who is serving her fifth four-year term on the county Board of Supervisors. She previously served on the Phoenix City Council for nine years.

Others expected to run in the Democratic primary for the congressional seat include state Sen. Steve Gallardo and former state Rep. Ruben Gallego.

Pastor's Phoenix-area district is heavily Democratic and whoever wins the August primary is expected to easily win November's general election.
