State touts trout fishing in northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- The Arizona Game and Fish Department says now is the time for catching trout in northern Arizona.

The department is stocking lakes around Flagstaff and Williams.

Fish biologists said that won't be possible in a couple of months because water quality diminishes as temperatures rise and lake levels drop.

The department said while springtime is better for trout fishing in northern Arizona, summer is best for bass, pike, catfish and crappie.

Anyone buying a license should keep a few things in mind. The new fishing license no longer requires a trout stamp and allows for two fishing poles in the water at a time. The license now expires a year from the date it is issued.

The cost is $37 for Arizona residents and $55 for nonresidents.
