Arizona lawyer sentenced to prison in gang case
FLORENCE, Ariz. — A Phoenix defense attorney has been sentenced to three years in prison on convictions on charges of helping a criminal gang led by her husband, a prison inmate whom she represented as a lawyer.
The Pinal County Attorney's Office said Carmen Lynn Fischer Garcia was sentenced March 17, a month after she entered into a plea agreement.
County Attorney Lando Voyles said Fischer Garcia admitted acting as a conduit for information for a criminal gang and funneling money to inmates.
Fischer Garcia pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted money laundering and of assisting a criminal street gang.
State Bar of Arizona spokesman Rick DeBruhl said the organization has asked a state court to suspend Fischer Garcia's law license.
