ORO VALLEY, Ariz. -- Landscapers working across the street rescued a 12-year-old Oro Valley boy who apparently was trapped in a burning house.

Police Lt. Kara Riley said the landscapers on Wednesday heard the boy banging on a picture window in the home and used a shovel to break the window in order to pull him out of the house.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that the boy was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.

Golder Ranch Fire District Capt. Josh Hurguy said the fire may have prevented the boy from reaching the front door. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
