PHOENIX -- Democrats in the Arizona House of Representatives have made a pair of leadership moves prompted by the resignation of Rep. Ruben Gallego from his role as the No. 2 Democrat in the House.
Gallego has stepped down as assistant minority leader as he prepares to run for Congress in the 9th District. He says he plans to resign from the House on Friday to focus on that effort.
House Democrats on Tuesday promoted Tucson Rep. Bruce Wheeler from minority whip to Gallego's old post. Rep. Eric Meyer of Paradise Valley was elected to minority whip.
Rep. Chad Campbell of Phoenix retains his post as House minority leader.
Democrats hold 24 of 60 seats in the House.
