GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Glendale police said a convenience store employee is dead after being shot by a customer early Monday morning.

Police are trying to determine whether the shooter is the same man who fired at Department of Public Safety officers on a Tempe freeway later in the morning. That man died of a fatal gunshot.

Details are sketchy but police said 26-year-old Daniel Scott White, an employee, was shot at or near the store's doorway after an altercation with the unidentified customer.

According to police, the employee had confronted a man as he left the store after pumping gas into his vehicle and going into the store.

The store is in the area of 99th and Glendale avenues in the vicinity of the Loop 101 freeway.
