ORACLE, Ariz. -- A living lab modeled after the Sea of Cortez is set to open inside Biosphere 2.
University of Arizona officials said the Biosphere 2 Ocean Gallery will reopen Saturday afternoon to show the beginning of its transformation into an ocean habitat.
The exhibit will be a source for public outreach and research.
Biosphere 2 is also launching a crowd-funding campaign to design the facility's ocean biome into a miniature desert sea with underwater forest and rocky shorelines.
The U of A operates Biosphere 2 as a science, public education and outreach facility, with science on rain forests, solar energy and water conservation.
