PHOENIX — A non-profit Valley animal shelter received 10,000 pounds of food Wednesday for abandoned or vulnerable animals.
Tempe police officers and court staff along with several local schools joined forces to help the Lost Our Home shelter.
Officers who respond to an abandoned, vacant or foreclosed property sometimes encounter an abandoned animal. It can be extremely difficult for officers to locate a shelter that is willing to provide medical care and a home for abused, injured animals until a permanent home with an adoptive family can be found.
“A lot of times we don’t know what to do with them and we can’t keep them, obviously,” said Tempe Police Sgt. Mike Pooley. “Having a shelter like this in Tempe, to have people take these aminals, get them fed and cleaned, it’s just a good thing for all of us.”
