PHOENIX -- An appeals court is scheduled to hear arguments on March 11 over a judge's order that Maricopa County pay $975,000 to settle Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox's lawsuit over a failed corruption case brought against her.

The settlement agreement was negotiated between Wilcox's lawyer and a senior county official, but some county officials questioned whether the senior official had the authority to resolve the case.

A judge ruled in Wilcox's favor in the dispute, and the county appealed that decision.

Wilcox and other county officials alleged Sheriff Joe Arpaio and then-County Attorney Andrew Thomas conducted groundless criminal investigations of them.

Arpaio and Thomas have maintained they were trying to root out corruption.

A criminal case against Wilcox was dismissed after a judge ruled Thomas had a conflict in prosecuting her.
