PHOENIX -- An attorney for a former Fiesta Bowl chief executive who admitted to participating in an illegal campaign contribution scheme says the former executive's friends and associates have asked the judge who will sentence him next month for leniency.
John Junker's attorney said letters by friends and family show his client is a moral man who has a lifelong commitment to the community and a history of helping those who are less fortunate.
Prosecutors who argued Junker abused his powerful position are seeking a one-year prison sentence.
Junker's attorneys are expected to seek probation at his March 13 sentencing hearing.
Junker has pleaded to a federal conspiracy charge and admitted his involvement in a scheme in which bowl employees made illegal campaign contributions to politicians and were reimbursed by the bowl.
