PHOENIX -- A large fire that was sparked at a Phoenix business Thursday did not damage a nearby freeway ramp, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

Investigators determined there was no damage caused by the fire that burned near the Interstate 17 and Interstate 10 interchange.

ADOT kept the ramp closed as a precaution, but it was reopened to traffic on Friday morning.

The co-owner of the business said he was glad that no one was seriously injured in the large fire.

Fire Department officials said the fire apparently started from welding work. It sent a tall column of smoke over west-central Phoenix for more than an hour.
