PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Corrections said three inmates remained hospitalized after being injured in a fight between dozens of inmates at a state prison in Buckeye.
Meanwhile, the 1,100-inmate Stiner unit of the Lewis prison complex remains on lockdown as a result of the disturbance Thursday, with no visitation allowed through at least the weekend.
Ten inmates were initially hospitalized, but department spokesman Doug Nick said seven have been released. Nick also says the one inmate who was in critical condition has been upgraded.
Nick said the department's investigation continues but that authorities believe the fight resulted from racial tension between Hispanic and African-American inmates.
