PHOENIX -- An Arizona house committee approved a bill that would appropriate more than $40 million over the next three years for employee raises at the state Department of Public Safety.
House Bill 2691 by Republican House Speaker Andy Tobin originally asked for $2.9 million for each of the next three years. Republican Rep. Justin Pierce of Mesa amended the bill by increasing that amount to $8.4 million in 2014, $13.4 million in 2015 and $18.4 million in 2016. The total for those three years is $40.2 million.
The House public safety committee passed the bill unanimously on Wednesday.
The bill will now go to an appropriations committee.
