FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Detectives have arrested a 73-year-old Oregon man for the decades-old murder of a man in northern Arizona.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said Saturday that Robert Rodriquez Resendez will be extradited in Medford, Ore.

Resendez is accused of robbing and fatally shooting 51-year-old Jerry Arnold Heath in 1981 outside of Flagstaff.

Authorities said the vehicle Heath was driving from Texas to his home in Lompoc, Calif., was found abandoned along Interstate 10 in Yuma County on Aug. 26, 1981.

Investigators said Heath's remains were discovered in some brush off Interstate 40 a month later. They said he appeared to die from a gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives said a resubmitting of fingerprints collected from the vehicle turned up a match to Resendez.

Authorities arrested Resendez on Thursday.
