TUCSON, Ariz. -- Pima County authorities say a pregnant woman was critically injured and lost her unborn baby after a truck collided head-on with her vehicle.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the 27-year-old woman had to be extricated from the vehicle Friday afternoon and remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Deputies said a pickup truck going northbound on Nogales Highway swerved into the southbound lane after colliding with a northbound vehicle trying to turn left onto Lumber Road. As a result, the truck hit the woman's southbound car.

Authorities said the truck's driver wasn't hurt and neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor.
