House committee backs repeal of Medicaid expansion
PHOENIX -- Some Republican legislators are attempting to reverse Arizona's 2013 decision to expand the state's Medicaid program under the federal health care law, while another GOP lawmaker wants to add work requirements for those getting insurance and limit coverage to five years.
A bill approved by a House committee on a party-line vote Thursday would repeal the expansion of the state's Medicaid program.
Republican Rep. Adam Kwasman of Oro Valley says expansion will bankrupt the state, while acknowledging the votes aren't there for passage.
The expansion was approved at the urging of Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, with support from Democrats and some Republicans in the Legislature.
House Speaker Andy Tobin is backing the work rule legislation also was approved Thursday.
Both are seeking the Republican nomination in the 1st Congressional District.
