Phoenix man rearrested in shooting of neighbor

PHOENIX -- A Phoenix man has been rearrested in a September fatal shooting.

Court documents said Nicholas Philip Oakes was jailed in lieu of $1 million bond. He's held on suspicion of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated harassment.

Oakes initially was arrested after the Sept. 6 shooting of neighbor Terry Maynard. The shooting came after alleged harassment of Maynard and another neighbor by Oakes.

A judge ruled last month that Oakes was incompetent to stand trial and was a danger to himself and others.

The judge also ordered that Oakes be confined at a behavioral health facility. He was re-arrested there Tuesday night.

The Maricopa County Office of the Legal Advocate represented Oakes before, and an official said the office is trying to determine whether it will do so again.
