YUMA, Ariz. -- Authorities in southwestern Arizona say a man is in custody in connection with an armed altercation at a Yuma convenience store.

Yuma police say 33-year-old Jesse Vasquez is being held on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Officers responded to a Circle K store on a report of a disturbance involving a gun around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Vasquez got into an altercation with a 35-year-old male customer inside the store and allegedly pointed a handgun at him.

They say Vasquez tried to fire the weapon, but it didn't work and he fled the scene.

Police later stopped his vehicle and arrested him.

They're now investigating whether Vasquez was involved in several other recent shooting incidents in Yuma.

It was unclear Wednesday if Vasquez has a lawyer yet.
