FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Pinal County is without virtually any election equipment after a fire gutted the election warehouse in downtown Florence.
County Recorder Virginia Ross says the lost equipment includes the central computer used to tabulate results and optical scanners and touch-screen machines used at polling places.
Florence Town Manager Charles Montoya says the fire's cause is under investigation.
However, authorities say it may have been started by an electrical short of some kind.
The blaze started about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Authorities say total equipment loss is estimated at $1.2 million.
Voting records aren't stored at the warehouse.
Ross says her county's next election is the state primary in August. She says she's been assured by the Board of Supervisors chairman that the elections department will get what it needs to reconstitute.
