PHOENIX -- State Sen. Leah Landrum Taylor is dropping her bid for the Democratic party nomination for Secretary of State.
Landrum Taylor formally announced she was running in December but dropped out Monday. She said she instead wants to focus on reforming the state's child welfare system.
Landrum Taylor was the minority leader in the Senate before being ousted by fellow Democrats in favor of Sen. Anna Tovar in October.
The announcement comes about a month after former Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said he would run for the job as the state's top election officer.
Republicans in the race include state Sen. Michele Reagan, Rep. Justin Pierce and investor Wil Cardon.
Incumbent Ken Bennett is running for the Republican nomination for governor.
