PHOENIX -- An hourslong police standoff in west Phoenix ended peacefully early Friday morning with a man taken into custody.

Police responded to a report of domestic violence at an apartment near 39th Avenue and Camelback Road around 9:30 Thursday night. They said an armed man had chased his girlfriend through the complex before he locked himself in a friend's apartment.

The man pointed a gun at officers when they let themselves into the unit with a key.

No shots were ever fired and the man gave up around 5 a.m.

Several apartments were evacuated as a precaution.
