PHOENIX -- A March 13 sentencing has been scheduled for a former Arizona State University defensive back convicted of attempted sexual assault.

Andres Rafael Garcia faced up to 17 years in prison for his guilty pleas in December to attempted sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman and third-degree burglary.

Garcia was accused of pushing the victim and causing her to fall into a wall and then to the ground.

Investigators said she lost consciousness but later woke up and was unable to cry or move her body as Garcia attacked her.

Police said Garcia later apologized to the woman and said wished he could take it back.

Garcia joined the Sun Devils in the 2012 season as a nonscholarship player, but was later dismissed from the team.
