MARANA, Ariz. -- A possibly injured motorcyclist is missing after an accident that closed eastbound Interstate 10 in southern Arizona for much of the night.

The state Department of Transportation said eastbound lanes were closed near Marana about 10 p.m. Wednesday and reopened about 4 a.m. Thursday. Westbound lanes weren't affected.

The state Department of Public Safety said first-responders searched for hours along the highway near the Marana Road exit for a motorcycle rider.

DPS said the biker was thrown from his bike after a collision with another vehicle and several vehicles then struck the motorcycle.

That search included draining a nearby canal.

Hospitals and truck stops in the region have been alerted to watch for anyone requesting medical assistance for injuries consistent with a motorcycle accident.
