Arizona man gets 3 years for pointing gun at border agents
PHOENIX -- A Nogales man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison on convictions of assaulting a federal officer.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for Arizona said Daniel Alberto Silva, 40, was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison after pleading guilty in the case.
Authorities said two U.S. Border Patrol agents were trying to arrest Silva in August in connection with a human-smuggling investigation.
They said Silva fled then pointed a gun at the agents who were still in their patrol vehicle chasing him. Once Silva was arrested, authorities found a handgun nearby, along with ammunition in Silva's pocket.
The Border Patrol conducted the investigation.
