New worst passwords list shows people still not learning

Jan 23, 2014, 5:32 PM | Updated: Jan 24, 2014, 5:00 am

PHOENIX — Really, Internet folks? We still haven’t learned?

According to a new list from SplashData, a security-application producer, the most common — and therefore the worst — password used is “123456.”

The data was compiled in various ways, but a large portion of it came from an online post of thousands of Adobe passwords that were leaked in a breach.

“Seeing passwords like ‘adobe123’ and ‘photoshop’ on this list offers a good reminder not to base your password on the name of the website or application you are accessing,” says Morgan Slain, CEO of SplashData.

Though they may be easier to type in or remember, the use of common passwords makes it easier for hackers and other Internet users to not only steal personal information, but gain access to sites and servers that should be off-limits.

The top 10 worst passwords of 2013 are below:

1) 123456
2) password
3) 12345678
4) qwerty
5) abc123
6) 123456789
7) 111111
8) 1234567
9) iloveyou
10) adobe123

We want to hear from you.
