A new report on higher education has been released by Illinois State University and the results are disheartening.

According to the report, conducted by the university's Center for the Study of Education Policy, "Arizona cut funding for its public colleges and universities by more than 30 percent since 2009."

In 2009, the state spent $1.3 billion on higher education, but for this fiscal year, that number has dropped to $873 million, Phoenix station KNXV-TV reported.

On Jan. 17, Gov. Jan Brewer released a budget plan and it "asked for a no-growth budget in 2015 for state institutions."

The report also showed that a whopping 40 states actually increased their funding for public education.
