MARICOPA, Ariz. -- Police in the town of Maricopa say there's been an officer-involved shooting following a car chase.

Authorities say the man is hospitalized in critical condition after Tuesday afternoon's shooting.

His name hasn't been released yet.

Police say the man reportedly had a weapon and threatened to shoot himself.

They received a call around 2:15 p.m. from the man's wife, who said her husband responded to some bad news he received by threatening suicide.

She says he had a weapon when he drove away from their home.

A police officer initiated a pursuit, but the man refused to stop until his car's tires were deflated by stopsticks.

Details remain sketchy, but police say the officer felt threatened and shot at the man, who was hit in the chest.
